Trapper Creek /Petersville AreaUpdated 3/21/2013
This week all the trails in the area have been groomed and are in great shape. The weather has been clear and cold with no melting of the snow pack. Most of the open areas are wind blown from last week but softer snow can be found in the trees and back in the valleys and deeper in the mountains.
Snow is forecasted by the weekend and with the longer daylight, riding this time of year is always good. Be safe and enjoy.
Big Lake Area Snowmachine Trails
Open Updated 12/20/2012
Dan Mayfield Big Lake Trails, Inc.
The west portion of Trail 1, to Trail 5 and out the Iron Dog, to the Old Winter Trail were freshly groomed Wednesday night to full width using both Tucker Sno-Cats. While there has been no new snow, we were able to vastly improve the surface of the trails by cutting away the majority of bumps. The temp was -17 degrees when grooming so the trails should set up very well. There are still some bumps out there dictated by terrain. More snow will help us to level those out over time.
We currently have no new snow with a 12" base. The seven day forecast calls for temperatures between -8 degrees to + 19 degrees and the possibility of snow on Monday. Do the snow dance....
The Houston Loop Trail was groomed with a single pass last week. It will be freshly groomed before the end of the week to full width.
Overall, you will find Big Lake area trails will provide you with a healthy, enjoyable, stress free riding experience. Perfect for this holiday season. Come join the fun at Big Lake!
Above all, have a safe and joyous holiday season with the ones you love.

OPEN - Hiking & X-C Skiing Updated 4/12/2013
The Lazy Mountain Winter Trail System consists of a series of 8 - 20 foot wide loops located on the lower slopes of Lazy Mountain. The trails are suitable for intermediate to expert skiers. The upper trails have gentle grades suitable for intermediate while the lower trails traverse steeper terrain and are more suitable for intermediate to expert-level skiers.
For those prepared for winter backcountry travel, the Lazy Mountain HikingTrail begins at the trailhead and ascends 3000 vertical feet in less than 2 1/2 miles. The recently built Lazy Moose Hiking Trail offers an easier option with gentler gradients. Neither of these two hiking trails are groomed but can usually be snow-shoed or hiked depending on snow conditions. The 2 mile long Morgan Horse Trail also starts from the Lazy Mountain trailhead, connects with Smith and Maud Roads to the south, and offers options for accessing Matanuska Peak and Plumley Maud Trails.
The trails and trailhead offer spectacular views of the Matanuska and Knik River valleys. The microclimate of this area often produces higher snowfallsthan adjacent areas of the Matanuska Valley. The Lazy Mountain Recreation Area is maintained for non-motorized recreation and the ski trails are groomed weekly by MSB Parks staff when snow cover warrants.
