  •          1 Cunit = 100 cubic feet

Sales will be based on an individual lump sum basis.  The timber harvest contracts being offered expire 12 months to 2 years after signing depending on contract terms.  Performance and Scarification bonds required are detailed in the contracts.  These timber sales include utilization of existing permanent logging roads, new permanent, temporary, and winter road development, and roads as described and directed in each specific contract. 

All sales above meet the requirements of MSB 23.20 and MSB 28.60 if applicable.  The forest management actions are directed at achieving specific resource objectives outlined in the MSB Five Year Timber Harvest Schedule and the MSB Periodic Implementation Schedule.  The Division hereby gives notice that it is in the best interest of the Borough to offer these timber sales by competitive sealed bid.  To qualify bidders must, prior to the bid opening, not be in breach of any Matanuska-Susitna Borough obligation or contract, and must have a  current MSB Business License.  The coy of current MSB business license must be submitted with sealed bid.  Sealed bids, submitted on forms provided by the Division, marked on the outside with the timber sale name and number, and addressed to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Purchasing Division, 350 East Dahlia Ave., Palmer, Alaska 99645, will be accepted until 2:00 P.M. prevailing time, July 21, 2014.  All bids must be in the physical possession of the Division prior to the time set for bid opening.

Each submission shall be accompanied by certified check, postal money order, cashier's check, or Bid Bond in the amount of 10% of the total purchase price; made payable to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, with good and sufficient surety or sureties acceptable to the Borough.  Bid Guarantees will be held until the Timber Sales Contract is executed.  Failure to execute the sales contract within 5 (five) days of Notice of Successful Bid will result in forfeiture of the Bid Guarantee and may result in bidder being disqualified from other sales of this nature.

Persons interested in these timber sales are encouraged to visit the sale areas, review logging and road cost estimates, road construction standards, and scarification requirements and standards prior to bidding. Bid documents are available beginning June 20, 2014 from the Purchasing Division, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, 350 E. Bids due:  July 21, 2014 @ 2 PM in the Purchasing Division.

Each sealed bid must be received before the date and time due and must be marked with the appropriate Bid Number to be considered.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids, waive any and all technicalities or informalities it deems appropriate.  Award of this project is subject to the availability of funding.

The permit must be in your possession during the removal of wood from the site. The cost for each cord of wood is $25 with a maximum of TEN cords per household per year from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.  The cost of saw timber is $1.75 per lineal foot.

Knik River Road will be temporarily closed for one hour on two days at mile 3.7.  The road will be closed just east of the intersection of E. Knik River Road and Tempra St. for one hour on two days, June 2 and June 5. 

A contractor is blasting rock some 10 feet off the shoulder of the road to improve the sight distance at the intersection. The blasting is planned between 11 am and 1 pm. 

Following the 1-hour closure, traffic will flow through one lane, controlled by a flagger with up to 20-minute delays. The construction work will be during 9 am to 5 pm.

The Point Mackenzie Remote Personal Use Firewood Harvest Area will open January 28, 2014.   MSB Tax Id Parcel 14N04W35B002 is set aside for remote personal use firewood harvest of dead down and/or dead standing spruce and birch.

The harvest area is located in the Point MacKenzie area south of the Port and South of the Point MacKenzie Rail Extension.  All timber offered is dedicated for remote use and cannot be transported on any public road.  Access and removal restrictions will be strictly enforced. This area is designated as personal use only for harvest of MSB forest resources. 

A $25 permit is required and may be obtained from the Land & Resource Management Division between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri. beginning Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Mat-Su Borough Administration Building, located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer.  Please be prepared to provide the year, make, model and license number of all motorized vehicle(s) or trailers to be used while harvesting the timber.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB), Land & Resource Management Division, has received an application to purchase a borough-owned parcel in the Middle Caswell Lake area.  Proposed land sale to the adjacent property would allow improved access and development of private lot (Tax ID # 6070000L1003).  If approved, private lot owner would dedicate an upland public access easement to the Public Lake Access which is currently inaccessible due to swamp.  The walk-in easement would allowing access from the road to the lake skirting around the swampy areas.  The MSB park located east of the public lake access will remain available for parking.  There is additional public lake access and boat launch area south of the proposed walk-in easement as shown on the vicinity map.  Sale would be at tax assessed value and is allowable under MSB 23.10.230(A)(1)(d) wherein a non-competitive sale may b approved by ordinance for an adjacent property owner for access or to address a substandard or unusable lot condition.

The Joe Redington Sr. Jr./Sr. High Personal Use Firewood Harvest Area has been restocked as of July 1, 2014.  The recently added wood is almost entirely birch in good, clean condition, and has been limbed and stacked in six foot tall rows.  The access road is dry, compact and in good condition and is located off of West Dagg Drive from South Knik Knack Mudshack Road, Knik-Goose Bay Road, Parks Highway.  This timber is available on a first come, first serve basis, permit required`.  If you haven't already collected your ten (10) allowable cords for the 2014 calendar year, this is a great opportunity to do so.  This area is designated as personal use only for harvest of MSB forest resources.

A $25 permit is required and may be obtained from the Land & Resource Management Division between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri. beginning Wednesday July 2, 2014 at the Mat-Su Borough Administration Building, located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer. Please be prepared to provide the year, make, model, and license number of all motorized vehicle(s) or trailers to be used while harvesting the timber. 

Hours of operation for this site are Wednesday through Saturday 8 am to 7 pm only.

Western Construction will be closing a section of Caswell Lakes Road from Hidden Hills Road to Amundsen Ave for road construction activities.  Few residents around the Brownbear Road and Circle inside the closure will try to be notified by Lounsury and Western Construction.  A detour route down Hidden Hills Road to Lostaspinner Street, to Bendapole road then back to Caswell Lakes Rd will be signed with detour signs accordingly to the attached TCP.

This closure will be 24hours starting on June 9th - July 3 rd at noon before the rush of holiday.

This closure will be lifted for the July 4th holiday and I will update the construction activities at the end of June for what type of closure for after the holiday with a new traffic control plan.
