Talis Colberg
Borough Mayor

Mayor Talis Colberg was born in the Territory of Alaska in 1958.  He graduated from Palmer High School in 1976 and earned a BA degree from Pacific Lutheran University in 1979.  He obtained a law degree from Pepperdine University in 1983.  In 2008 he earned a Ph.D. at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a dissertation entitled: M.D. Snodgrass and the Founding of the Alaska State Fair. He has been an attorney in Alaska for 25 years and has served as an adjunct history instructor for the University of Alaska Anchorage Mat-Su campus since 1992.

Mayor Colberg has been married for 28 years and has two children.

Prior to being elected Mayor of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough he served as the attorney general for Alaska.  He was elected to two full terms on the Borough Assembly in 2000 and 2003 to a seat previously held by his father for six years.  Colberg was a director and president of the Alaska State Fair, Inc. from 1994 through 2000.  He has been a board member and chairman of the Alaska Humanities Forum from 2002 through 2006, and was again appointed to that board in 2009.  He is also a past president of the Palmer Rotary Club where he has been a member since 1992.
