The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB), Land Management Division has received a proposal from the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT/PF) to acquire a borough parcel located along the Matanuska River in the Butte. Purpose of acquisition is for erosion control stemming from 2012 river flooding which threatened the Old Glenn Highway last fall.  DOT/PF proposes to begin erosion control construction measures this spring on the upland area adjacent to the highway to mitigate the potential of accelerated erosion and threat to the highway right-of-way.

DOT/PF proposes to acquire the entire 4.19 acre parcel in order to ensure future control over erosion mitigation and maintenance efforts.  Their current construction and erosion control proposal does not affect the river shoreline itself, only the upland areas near the highway.

Supporting material is available for public inspection during normal business hours on the 2nd floor of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough building in the Land Management Division.  Public comment is invited on this request.  If you have any comments please mail or deliver them to the borough offices at the address indicated above, no later than May 27, 2013.
