Feb 1, 2012 - LiDAR and Imagery Project Update

MAT-SU LiDAR & Imagery Project Presentation
The MSB, Rick Guritz (UAF), and Aerometric will be doing a collaborative presentation on the LiDAR/Imagery project at the Alaska Surveying and Mapping Conference. The presentation will be from 3:30-5p on Friday 2/17/12 at the Hilton in Anchorage. Anyone registered for the conference is welcome to attend.
The presentation is part of the Technical Sessions and is titled: A Collaborative Presentation on the Matanuska-Susitna Borough LiDAR & Imagery Project: Including Project Background, Data Acquisition and Processing, Quality Assurance and Quality Control, and Data Dissemination; by Heather Kelley, Jason Mann {Jacques Cloutier replaced Jason as a speaker for the presentation} and Rick Guritz.

Imagery Update
5 blocks of imagery have been delivered to MSB.

  • Pt MacKenzie and Willow have both been accepted after an internal MSB Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) process.
  • The Caswell Lakes and Talkeetna blocks have gone through the initial QA/QC process but there are a few small things we need to discuss with the vendor before the blocks can be accepted.
  • The North Susitna block has recently been delivered and will be going through the QA/QC process over the next week.
  • The Core and Matanuska blocks are expected for initial delivery in mid to late February.

LiDAR Update

  • The Pt MacKenzie block has gone through the complete QA/QC process and we are expecting  a re-delivery to Rick Guritz. We are reasonably confident this will be the final delivery of the Pt MacKenzie block. Once it passes the final checks, the data will be delivered to the MSB soon thereafter.
  • The Willow block has gone through the initial QA/QC process and will be re-delivered to Rick by next Monday. There are a few final QA/QC checks that need to be made. Once the data passes those final checks it will be delivered to the MSB...we're hoping by the end of February or early March.
  • The Caswell block will be delivered to Rick by the end of next week (2/10).
  • The Talkeetna block will be delivered to Rick by mid February {this original date was delayed}.
  • The North Susitna block will be delivered to Rick by the end of February {this original date was delayed}. This block will move to the front of the QA/QC queue once it arrives due to the pressing need for this data.
  • The Core and Matanuska blocks will follow soon thereafter.

Please keep in mind that each of these blocks will need to go through the full QA/QC process which can take 2 weeks to 1 month. Blocks of data will not be available until they pass the final QA/QC checks. As a result, exact dates of availably are difficult to identify. We will keep everyone in the loop as data becomes available.

Data Dissemination
We're still in the process of hammering out the final details on data dissemination.
There will be more to come on this topic in the upcoming weeks.
