A management plan for the Matanuska River corridor was developed in 2010 to address issues of river erosion, land uses, recreation and government resources for river management.
Matanuska River Management Plan
The Matanuska River, a dynamic 80 mile-long glacial-fed river, actively moves across it's wide braid plain, changing channels and causing erosion of land and loss of property and structures. The Matanuska River Management Plan identified goals to address river issues through education, land use polices and interagency collaboration. A planning team was created including federal, state and local governments, community councils, service areas and riverside residents. Public and planning team meetings were held in communities along the river to gather information and provide for public review of the plan. The final plan was sent to the MSB Planning Commission and Assembly for consideration and approval.
MSB Planning Commission approved the plan on August 16, 2010. The plan was submitted to the MSB Asssembly for public hearing and was approved on September 21, 2010
