The Planning Division's guiding principles are to:
- Enhance the MSB's transportation system
- Foster sound economic development
- Improve the quality of life of residents
- Provide outreach opportunities to the public
- Engage the public, listen effectively and be responsive to residents' needs
- Conserve rural qualities, cultural heritage and natural resources
- Protect the quality of MSB's environment
The Planning Division is responsible for developing long range plans including land use, transportation, and public facilities plans; plans concerning the development and growth of the Borough; and the development of the capital improvement program. In addition, the Planning Division assists with the development of regulations and other means of implementing adopted plans, and acts as liaison with other public agencies relating to land use planning. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the division works with citizen groups, community councils, incorporated cities, advisory boards, the planning commission and the assembly.
Division staff collects, tracks, and analyzes information about the Borough including physical and economic growth and demographics. Available information is provided to the general public as well as other agencies. Staff also reviews and processes borough comments and recommendations concerning private and public development; reviews and comments on Borough land disposals, platting actions and private land development permit applications; and performs special assignments suited to the division's overall mission and staff qualifications.
