  • The GCCC design-build contract is let to Neeser Construction, Inc.
  • Representatives of Neeser Construction, Inc (NCI) attended. NCI representatives offered to work with the community to control litter and illegal camping.
  • The community will provide lists of:
    • community services,
    • issues with the road contractor last summer,
    • local conditions like icy road areas, moose areas, propane-hauling truck hazards, and
    • local recreational opportunities
  • The water/wastewater facility project definition is progressing, the RFP is expected to go out in 30-60 days.
  • Conversations continue about time frameand funding sources for a potential fire station adjacent to the prison. Currently, the time frame remains distant.

  • You may request to borrow the video "Prison Town, USA" from the Planning Dept.
  • The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly approved the contract award to Neeser Construction Inc. January 20. A contract signing ceremony was held February 3 (printable invitation).
    The project team is preparing to move forward with advanced design and construction.

  • Recommends the borough require contractors for projects like the prison or road construction provide a local orientation to workers, including subcontractors. Orientation methods may include informational handouts or group sessions. Information should include property ownership in the project area with emphasis to respect private property, and describe recreational opportunities and locations, local laundromats, RV facilities, and waste disposal locations.

  • Recommends the new public safety building be designed and built to house an ambulance, and that a temporary loaner ambulance from MSB be housed at Goose Creek Correctional Center.
  • Recommends Goose Creek Correctional Center medical staff be available to the community duringan emergency.

  • Recommends First Responder and Hazmat training be provided to DOC staff at GCCC.
  • Recommends DOC and project design team consider biomass for project, alternative or supplemental power generation.
