Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Government Peak Chalet

A grand opening / ribbon cutting was held on January 11th, 2014. The building was enthusiastically received by all in attendance.

A recent grant and additional appropriation from the Borough Assembly will allow for upgrades to the facility for a commercial kitchen and fire sprinkler system in the building.

Project Benefits

The building is approximately 4,000 square feet and functions as both a warming shelter for recreationists awaiting transportation and a place for community events.

Project Status

Wolf Architecture was selected to design and Davis Constructors was awarded the contract to construct the Chalet which was was completed ahead of schedule in 2014.

Since that time the facility has been used for a broad base of activities in the local community and usage continues to increase. Since opening, additional funding became available to meet the community’s desire for a warming kitchen. In addition to the kitchen, a fire suppression system was added. Wirtanen Construction is teamed with Wolf Architecture and construction began September 1st. The 10,000 gallon cistern to support the fire suppression system, the sprinkler system, electrical service upgrades
and the warming kitchen are now complete with the chalet re-opened to the public.
