Mat-Su—Drennon Construction and Consulting Inc. will be building 3.6 miles of recreational trails this summer in the Government Peak Recreation Area. The work will be completed by Sept. in time for the skiing season.

The trails will be located about one mile north of Edgerton Parks Road and one mile west of the N. Palmer-Fishhook Road on the southern slopes of Government Peak near Hatcher Pass. Skiing, hiking, biking and other non-motorized activities will be possible on the new trails. The contract amount is for $328,530.

The Nordic Ski and recreation area will be built in phases. These initial miles are part of phase 1, which will ultimately include 10 kilometers of Nordic ski trails with long and short loops. Phase II will have more extensive and difficult trail system designed for competitions.
