Matanuska-Susitna Borough Animal Care Facility -- Before taking possession of 157 dogs from a husky breeder last night the shelter was at near capacity with adoptable dogs. To make room for these animals Mat-Su Animal Care is offering these adoptable dogs and puppies for the sale price of $79.00. $17 if the dog is already spayed or neutered.
If you would like to assist with the care of the confiscated dogs, we need supplies. Monetary donations may be deposited in a special fund at Wells Fargo, account # 9373598334, Mat-Su Shelter Advocates Fund. Immediate needs are: Hills Science Diet (available at Animal Food Warehouse) metal dog bowls, blankets & towels, materials to create dog houses (dry straw, tarps, zip ties, corrugated metal/fiberglass panels, plywood) or dog houses and animal airline crates.
Animal Care is closed today to take care of all these new dogs but the night drop room is always open if you want to drop off your donations. Our physical location is 9470 E. Chanlyut Circle – next to the central landfill on 49th State Street. Mailing address is Animal Care & Regulation, Attn: Richard Stockdale, 350 E. Dahlia Ave, Palmer, AK 99645.
If you are a trained Animal Care volunteer and you would like to volunteer some time, please contact Sue Fujimoto at 761-7506 to schedule time. If you are not a trained Animal Care volunteer, call Sue to sign you up for the next training session, scheduled to be on January 24 at 6pm.
Bringing these dogs back to health is a long-term project.
We want to thank the two mushers who helped the officers last night with their time, gasoline and rigs, they were terrific to help us transport so many dogs to the Animal Care facility. Also a big thank-you to the 20 volunteers who dropped everything to come over the shelter and help process the dogs.
Thank you, Linda Henning of Alaska Dog News and Julia Durand of Alaska Dog and Puppy for creating the Mat-Su Shelter Advocates Fund at Wells Fargo.
