Special election required to fill mayoral seat
Thursday, 05 March 2009 16:10

Mat-Su–An ordinance calling for a Special Election on June 2 will be introduced at a special meeting on March 10 at 3 p.m., and a public hearing will be held on the matter on March 17 at the regular meeting.

Deputy Mayor Lynne Woods is performing mayoral duties at the Matanuska-Susitna Borough as the Deputy Mayor.  Mayor Curtis D. Menard passed away Tuesday morning.

If the day the vacancy occurred is more than six months from a regular election, State statute requires a special election to be held to fill the mayoral seat.

In 2006, the cost of a special election on school bonds was about $72,000.

For more information call Public Affairs Director Patty Sullivan 745-9577 or Borough Clerk Lonnie McKechnie at 745-9685.
