MAT-SU―Staff and officials at the Matanuska-Susitna Borough were saddened to learn of the death of former Borough Clerk Sandra Dillon. She gave many years to public service. She was first hired at the Borough in May 1989 as a Legal Secretary. She became Borough Clerk in April 1995 until she retired in May 2004.
Mayor Larry DeVilbiss expressed condolences for Dillon's family and friends. “She was a highly esteemed and fair person,” DeVilbiss said. “I enjoyed working with her when I was on the Assembly. She taught me everything I ever knew about Robert's Rules of Order.”
Among her list of accomplishments, Dillon was honored as Municipal Employee of the Year by the Alaska Municipal League in 2002 and Clerk of the Year in 2003. She served as President of the Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks from 1999 until 2001. Even after retirement she was committed to the ongoing education of new clerks and seasoned clerks, the Association stated in a release.
