Solid Waste Division
Solid Waste Division Rates Effective January 1, 2015
A rate change becomes effective on January 1, 2015. The Solid Waste Division operates an extensive network of Transfer Stations along with the Central Landfill. Services require infrastructure, employees and maintenance which drive operational costs. The Division makes every effort to keep costs down through creative maintenance programs, limited payroll and other means however, landfills are expensive and large projects drive rate increases. In FY 14 a $330,000 project or Cell 2A Closure Phase 1 prepared an old cell for closure to EPA standards. Final closure will take place next year at a cost of approximately $3,000,000. It is these types of projects that skew the budget and necessitate rate increases. The alternative to the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund is a tax on all property owners. Although the best method for running the landfill will continuously be evaluated, for now the Solid Waste Division is run like a business taking no tax revenues and operating in most part on revenues collected at the gates.
Hauling of unsecured refuse is prohibited. $12.00 fee for unsecured loads will be assessed upon entry to the landfill. Loads must be tarped or tied down. This includes garbage cans with lids or trash bags.
