Assemblymember Doty has served the Mat Su Community as a family physician since 1986. She came to Alaska as a WWAMI Medical student in Fairbanks, did an OB rotation as part of her training in Palmer at the original Valley Hospital, and fell in love. She returned to the Mat-Su Valley to practice in 1986. She married John Eshleman, a general contractor and homesteader originally from Sterling, in 1988. John and Barb raised their four children while developing Wolf Lake Airport and Steppers Construction. John was tragically killed in an airplane crash in 2010 over Denali Park in a C123 hauling a generator to Unalakleet. Assemblymember Doty continues to oversee operations of Steppers Construction Inc., promote safe general aviation activity at Wolf Lake Airport, as well as practice part-time at Solstice Family Care with the help of excellent support staff.
Assemblymember Doty was appointed to the Assembly in February 2015. She was elected to the Assembly in the October 6, 2015, Regular Borough Election.
