Matanuska-Susitna Borough

MSB Comprehensive Development Plan Update

Scope

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is required by Alaska Statute Title 29 to prepare a comprehensive land use plan.  In 2009, guidelines were adopted however, this process requires extensive time and resources and lackes direction on how to best receive input from all stakeholders within the planning area.  The Planning staff will create a revised community-based comprehensive planning process to reduce the time needed to amend or create new community comprehensive plans.

Update of the 2005 Borough-Wide Comprehensive Plan:  the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 2005.  Since this time, the Borough has experienced significant changes in demographics and economics, as well as major transportation and land use challenges since the plan was amended.  Many of the goals and policies in the 2005 plan has been instrumental in identifying acceptable land use regulations and infrastructure needs, however, an update is necessary to revisit those goals and policies.

Project Benefits

The process of a revised community-based comprehensive planning process should reduce the time needed to create or amend a community comprehensive plan while utilizing planning staff in the most efficient manner possible.

The process to update the 2005 Borough-Wide Comprehensive Plan will identify acceptable land use regulations and infrastructure needs; and revisit the goals and policies that were put in place in 2005.

Project Status
