Notice Type Public Review Documents

Type: State Land Management Plan – Jonesville Public Use Area –

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB), Land & Resource Management Division is assisting the Community of Sutton and the State of Alaska with drafting a management plan for the recently created Jonesville Public Use Area (JPUA). The JPUA is located off the end of Jonesville Mine Road in Sutton, off the Glenn Highway. The State Legislature created the JPUA through passage of Alaska Statutes 41.23.280 – 41.23.289. These statutes set out the purposes of the JPUA and the uses and activities allowed within the area. The designation of the public use area sets the stage for the management plan, which is available for public review. The draft management plan is consistent with the statutes and regulations applicable to state land use plans. The management plan will be presented to the Borough Assembly, the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources, and Commissioner of the Department of Fish of Game for adoption. The management plan, once approved, will guide management actions and public use and activities for the JPUA for the next 20 years.

Please submit comments during the public review period. The draft plan is available for download at: The goal is to improve visitors’ experience at the Jonesville Public Use Area and to protect what we all love about it.
