The Four Mile Road Personal Use Firewood Area will open Tuesday June 1, 2021 for harvest of spruce trees damaged by spruce bark beetles. The harvest area lies near the end of Four Mile Road off Willow Fishhook Road in Willow, Alaska. The harvest area is marked with flagging and signs.
No live, standing timber may be cut during this harvest. Only trees killed or damaged by spruce bark beetles are available during this harvest.
Vehicles are restricted to the existing driveways and parking areas, and ATVS are restricted to existing trails. Access will be closed during breakup and periods of ground saturating rains. No parking on Four Mile Road is authorized – permit holders are required to park in the old gravel pits.
A permit is required and may be obtained from the Mat-Su Borough E-Commerce webpage at https://ecommerce.matsugov.us (please note that an e-mail and credit card are required to create an ecommerce account), or at the Land & Resource Management Division office located at 350 E. Dahlia Ave., Palmer, between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri.
The permit must be in your possession during the removal of wood from the site.
There will be no charge for the permit or wood removed and it will not count towards the maximum of TEN cords per household per year from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
The permit will expire after all available wood has been removed, but no later than December 31, 2021. Please call the Land & Resource Management Division at 861-7869 if you have any questions.
