Notice Type Easement

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB), Land & Resource Management Division, has received an application requesting a private easement across borough-owned land for purpose of a Runway Protection Zone (RPZ) extending from a private airstrip located within Cubdivision subdivision. The proposed easement encompasses a 500’x1,000’x700’ area lying adjacent to the east end of the subdivision airstrip and contains approximately 13 acres. The affected borough parcel contains 480.00+/- acres (gross). The RPZ is not required by FAA, but is recommended as a safety zone for visual approaches by small aircraft and is typically cleared of large trees and heavy brush, has no buildings, and does not lend itself to large gatherings. The proposed RPZ is within a very wet creek drainage where vegetation is limited and development or regular use is unlikely to occur.   If a private easement is approved, the applicant will pay fair market value for use of the easement area and the borough will retain the perpetual right to enter onto, vacate, or amend the easement, and will retain the right to terminate the easement agreement in the event it ceases being used for the purposes granted.
