The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB), Land & Resource Management Division, has received a request from borough Capital Projects ROW Division for a public use easement to be constructed across borough land for the purpose of connecting Stringfield Road to Katherine Drive as it intersects the new Trunk Road. The proposed 50’ wide easement to be located within the north boundary of the borough parcel and affects only that portion lying east of Stringfield Road as shown on the vicinity map. A matching 50’ wide easement has been acquired by the borough on the adjacent land to the north, creating a total easement width of 100’. The connector will allow for better east-west traffic flow and is supported in the Borough Long Range Transportation Plan. Access to and from Trunk Road will be via existing turn lanes within the Trunk Road corridor. Pioneer Peak Elementary School is located within the southern half of Parcel D015 and will not be adversely affected by the easement. A preliminary Jurisdictional Determination was obtained from the Army Corp of Engineers in 2017 wherein the area lying east of Stringfield Road is not considered jurisdictional; therefore, requires no further action by the Corp for development purposes. Clearing of the easement area is expected to begin this winter while snow is still present.
