The Zero Lake Road Personal Use Firewood Area will open Tuesday June 1, 2021, for harvest of spruce timber killed by Spruce Bark Beetles. The harvest area lies 100-feet on either wide of the centerline of Zero Lake Road where it crosses MSB Parcel Tax ID 18N03W09A001; adjacent to the State of Alaska’s firewood harvest area located on Zero Lake Road, in Houston, Alaska. The harvest area is marked pink flagging and signs. For this permit, please remain on Borough owned property only.
No live standing timber may be cut during this harvest. Only trees killed or damaged by Spruce Bark Beetles are allowed during this harvest.
A permit is required and may be obtained from the Mat-Su Borough E-Commerce webpage at https://ecommerce.matsugov.us (please note that an e-mail and credit card are required to create an ecommerce account), or at the Land & Resource Management Division office located at 350 E. Dahlia Ave., Palmer, between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri.
The permit must be in your possession during the removal of wood from the site.
There will be no charge for the permit or wood removed and it will not count towards the maximum of TEN cords per household per year from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
The permit will expire after all available wood has been removed but no later than December 31, 2021. Please call the Land & Resource Management Division at 861-7869 if you have any questions.
