Public Works leads by example in exceeding community needs by being helpful and professional through competent management of the Borough's infrastructure and related support services. With excellence in service; we are setting the standard in every regard! Responsibilities of the Public Works Department include:


  • Manage and inspect construction projects

  • Inspect subdivision road construction

  • Design and obtain public rights-of-way

  • Road maintenance

  • Perform operations and maintenance for Borough buildings and vehicles

  • Provide custodial services for the DSJ Administration Building

  • Manage Central Landfill and the Transfer Sites (Solid Waste Division)

  • Manage the Talkeetna Water and Sewer Public Utility.

Operations and Maintenance

The Operations and Maintenance (O & M) Division manages road improvement projects, natural resource projects, and community projects. We provide maintenance of:


  • Roads

  • Facilities

  • Utilities

  • Vehicles (excluding Emergency Services vehicles)

Solid Waste Division

The Solid Waste Division provides a system for refuse disposal in the borough critical to ensuring refuse is not accumulated on private property or discarded on vacant land.


Solid Waste Division services include:

  • Household waste disposal

  • Construction and demolition debris disposal

  • Hazardous waste classification disposition and disposal

  • Asbestos acceptance

  • Recycling and community clean up coordination efforts including right of way clean up coordination and support as well as abandoned vehicle removal services


The Solid Waste Division staff is always available to offer advice to the community, the Borough Manager, Public Works Director, Mayor and Assembly on matters pertaining to solid waste which affect the borough and its constituents.
