Brett Memorial Ice Arena

The Brett Ice Arena is open with limited on-ice participation and limited observers. Persons with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should not be on the premises. All patrons are responsible for famiarizing themselves with and following all ice arena rules and COVID-19 mitigation protocols. Due to limted participation, reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to 48 hours ahead of the day you wish to skate.

Brett COVID Mitigation Plan

NEW PROTOCOLS AS OF 8-10-2020:   

  • All patrons are responsible for familiarizing themselves with and following all ice arena rules including this mitigation plan.
  • Persons with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should not be on the premises.
  • Limited On-ice participants - Due to limited changing area the number of on-ice participants per ice session will be determined depending on the activity and ice schedule to allow for overlap of participants from one event to the next event. Most ice sessions will consist of 30 on-ice participants. See the list of individual activities below for details.
  • Limited Observers - The number of observers for each event will be limited depending on the activity and ice schedule to allow for overlap of observers from one event to the next event. Most ice sessions will consist of 30 observers. See the list of individual activities below for details. Although observers are welcome, it is encouraged to have only one observer per participant.
  • On- ice Participants and Observers may enter the facility no more than 30 minutes before their skating session begins and must exit the facility within 30 minutes after their skating session ends. Due to the limited capacity, observers should limit their time in the facility before and after their event.
  • Minors 12 and under need to be under the immediate supervision of a parent or guardian at all times. We ask that siblings not come to observe unless necessary.
  • Changing areas for on-ice participants will include a combination of locker rooms, party rooms and chairs located outside the locker rooms.
  • Locker rooms and party rooms will have signage indicating the maximum number of people allowed inside at one time.
  • Locker room showers are available as long as participants exit the facility within 30 minutes of the end of their event.
  • No persons shall enter the player bench areas while they are closed for cleaning/sanitizing.
  • Private rental groups including youth hockey teams shall have a responsible adult on-site to ensure their on-ice participants and observers follow all ice arena rules including this mitigation plan.
  • Reservations are available and recommended.
  • If possible, when not exercising, social distancing of 6-foot by non-household members should be maintained.
  • Patrons are encouraged to wear a face mask when not exercising, but not required.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the facility.
  • All patrons should AVOID congregating inside the facility in the player benches, seating areas, entry way and other common areas.
  • Skate Sharpening – skates will be dropped off and sanitized before sharpening with a minimum turn around of 8 hours or longer if needed.
  • NO birthday parties or meetings until further notice.

STICK TIME: $6  *****NO SCRIMMAGING*****

  • No Scrimmaging is allowed during Public Stick times.
  • Public Stick times will be for passing, shooting, stick handling and skating practice.
  • Helmet and gloves required.

Learn to Skate

Learn to Skate Welcome to Learn To Skate at Brett Ice Arena. Ages 3.5 to adults and all skill levels are welcome! We offer a variety of classes year round. We teach the ISI Ice Skating Program. An ISI membership is required for all Learn to Skate students starting September 1, 2017. Follow this link to sign up for your ISI membership. ISI Membership

Theatre On Ice is about building skills, team skating and performing. We have performed in Fur Rondy On Ice, Alaska Aces games, and local shows and competitions. Come join our team, The "Ice Thrillers". We are the largest Theatre On Ice team in Alaska!
 
Individual Instruction
One on one coaching with one of our skating instructors. We have instructors who specialize in figure skating, beginning skating and hockey. Whether you want to play hockey, compete in figure skating competitions or have a solo in a skating show, we can help you accomplish your goals. Punchcards are available for individual instruction. Individual Instruction is done on Freestyle ice. Individual lessons is a great way to learn, or suplement Learn to Skate classes.
 
Figure Skating - Limited to 25
Freestyle Ice is reserved for Figure Skaters to practice and master their skills! This is also a time when individual instruction is done with a private instructor. Freestyle ice is $10 per session or punchcards may be purchased. All freestyle skaters must sign in at the front office before entering the ice. Please check our rink schedule for freestyle times.
 
Ice Shows/Competitions 
The Brett Ice Arena hosts two Learn to Skate Ice Shows every season. A Holiday Ice show in December and a Spring Ice Show in May.
The Brett Ice Arena hosts the annual Skatefest ISI Figure Skating Competition every year in March. This years competition will be held March 6th & 7th, 2021. We encourage skaters of all ages and levels to compete for the Brett.
The Brett Ice Arena has a figure skating team that travels to local figure skating competitions around the state of Alaska. Contact Kaitlyn for more information.

Private Ice Rental

  • On-ice participants limited to 30 skaters plus either 4 coaches/adult chaperones or 4 referees
  • Observers limited to 30
  • Private rentals shall have a single point of contact for all communications including but not limited to scheduling, cancellations, facility rules and emergencies.
  • Private rental permittee is responsible for ensuring all their participants and observers know and follow all facility rules including this mitigation plan.
  • Private rental permittee or their designee (designee may be a responsible adult such as a coach, team manager, board member, teacher or athletic director) shall be onsite during their event to ensure their participants and observers follow all facility rules including this mitigation plan.
  • Locker room use and space is limited. Each private rental will be assigned a changing area that may be a combination of locker rooms, party rooms and chairs outside the locker rooms. Use only the areas you are provided. Sanitation will occur in these areas between each use.
  • MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO RESERVE A PRIVATE ICE RENTAL
